Product Features & Overall Benefits
Now it’s time for me to talk about this machine in a bit more detail because let’s face it… you’re probably looking for answers to the following two questions:
- “Is this Reformer right for me?”
- “Is it worth spending my money on this particular Reformer?”
For such a long time, Reformers were a piece of equipment that could only be found in a Pilates studio. This meant that in order to take part in this style, we were required to buy expensive class packs and memberships to gain access to this machinery.
Luckily, that is now a thing of the past!
Now, we are able to purchase this versatile workout machine for ourselves to use in the comfort of our own homes. We are able to workout in our own time, at our own pace, without distraction and without feeling pressured.
Below is a detailed list of all the incredible features of the Stamina AeroPilates Pro XP 557 Reformer:
- Stylish solid oak wood and aluminum design
- Silver frame raised 15 inches off the ground for ease
- Adjustable/removable foot bar with 3 alternate positions
- 1x Large, free-form cardio rebounder (can be used instead of foot bar)
- Comfortable, foam padded shoulder rests
- Padded head rest with 3 alternate positions
- Soft hand and feet straps
- 4 steel springs with differing levels of resistance
- Smooth aluminum rails with ball bearing wheels
- Over 300 potential exercises
- 2x Workout DVD’s included in the package
- Wheels at the base (on one end) to make moving the machine a breeze
As well as all the physical features listed above, there are countless personal benefits that this remarkable machine will bring you. The AeroPilates saying is that this is not just a machine but an actual lifestyle. I believe this to be very true!
Whilst the advantages could go on forever (so to speak), there are a handful of key benefits that I think you ought to know about. These are just some of the amazing benefits you could expect from regular use of this machine:
- Increased mobility and flexibility
- Weight loss
- Improved posture
- Mental clarity
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- Relief from joint-pain
- A full-body workout
- Muscular toning
- Enhanced endurance
- A cost-effective and convenient fitness solution
- A fun, dynamic training style or hobby
The great thing about having a reformer of your own is that you can choose to workout as vigorously or as gently as you like, when you like. You can create a fully customisable workout depending on your own individual situation and fitness level.
As you begin to get better at the practice, stronger and more confident, you are easily able to increase the technicality of your workout and harden the spring resistance.
If at any time you’re after more of a cardio workout, you can simply fold down the foot bar and add on the free-form cardio rebounder to get your heart-rate pumping. The free-form rebounder will allow you to undertake your exercises whilst jumping or bouncing, in turn increasing the difficulty and pace of your workout.
It really is a rarity for Reformers to come with a FREE cardio rebounder. These accessories are usually a costly add-on which is one of the many reasons as to why this particular package is a bargain in my opinion.
Also, this machine (or any home reformer for that matter) is a low-impact workout choice. This method is absolutely perfect for those who suffer from pesky joint-pains, injuries etc. The Reformer is a multipurpose machine that literally anyone can use and it’s a piece of equipment that when chosen correctly, you will have for a lifetime.
Did I mention that it’s SUCH a fun way to workout too! 🙂
Let’s Talk About Value for Money
This tends to be the first thing I talk about when giving advice to people who ask whether they should spend their money on a studio membership or, on purchasing their own Reformer for home use.
Which option is going to give you more value for money?
Let’s compare the price of a standard studio membership to the cost of a Reformer machine that you can have in your own home. Take my own personal experience for this example…
Just last year, I was paying a hefty $55.00 (AUD) per week to attend a maximum of 3x Reformer classes each week. This meant that if I used all 3 classes each week (which I did) I was getting each class for $18.33 (AUD) as opposed to the $25.00 (AUD) that they were charging for an individual class.
Now, this tends to be quite standard for studio prices across the board and in some cases they will actually charge more than this. Overall, for an entire 12 months’ worth of membership at this studio, it equated to $2860.00 AUD.
As you will notice, this is the same price (or very close) to the Stamina AeroPilates Pro XP 557 Reformer. Undeniably, it is a lot of money. Money that majority of us don’t have lying around for a rainy day.
However, if you are someone who really enjoys Pilates, who knows all too well the vast benefits of this practice and, you intend on doing Pilates not just for one year but for many years to come… it really is a no brainer.
For the price you pay attending Pilates classes for one year (3 times per week maximum), you can purchase your own Reformer for home use, have it for a lifetime and be able to use it as many times throughout the week as you like. This works out to be far more cost effective in the long run.
Personally, I chose to set up my own home gym with a Pilates reformer (not just for me but for other family members to use as well) and I have never looked back on paying for expensive classes. It was the best decision I made to keep doing what I love for a minimal price and maximum convenience.
What I Love About This Machine
First things first, what I love about the Stamina AeroPilates Pro XP 557 Reformer is the fact that it’s what I would call the ultimate “middle-range” option.
Sure it’s quite a lot of money upfront but if you look at Reformers at each end of the scale, you’ll quickly discover that this sits comfortably in the middle in terms of price but, it provides features and inclusions that you would expect from a studio quality Reformer. You can easily expect to pay upwards of $5,000.00 AUD for one of them.
Secondly, I really like that this machine is a fantastic length as opposed to many “space saving and compact” options. I think that this is a very important factor as so many people out there (especially men) need a Reformer to be a practical length. This machine is perfect for all due to this reason.
As well as this, I love that the XP comes with some incredible inclusions in it’s Amazon package. As you will have read earlier, it comes inclusive of a Free-Form Cardio Rebounder and 2x Workout DVD’s to get you started.
I also can’t go past the fact that this Reformer is stunning in design. I personally have a modern home so, I didn’t want to go buying a chunky, ugly looking Reformer that would stick out like a sore thumb. I was after something that would look sleek, elegant, high-quality and fit in with the rest of my home décor.
Things I Don’t Love About This Machine
Whilst it’s all well and good for me to talk to you about the things I love, I think it’s also very important for me to address the things that I don’t necessarily like so that you can judge for yourself whether it’s the right item for you or not.
One thing that immediately caught my attention (in a negative way) was the fact that this machine is heavy and it takes up a decent amount of room. I myself live in a spacious, suburban home so having this machine in my gym hasn’t been a problem for my family. However, I could imagine that if you live in a smaller home or a tight apartment, you may have issues with the size of this Reformer.
Another thing that I didn’t like was that this Reformer only comes with a 4 spring resistance. To be fair, that really is all that anybody needs (no matter their size or fitness level) but, compared to other Reformer machines on the market, I think the company should have included more springs for this price.
My Concluding Thoughts
As a final note, I would have to say that this is probably my favourite option on the market at present and it has been for some time.
If you thoroughly enjoy the Pilates practice as I do, you wish to be able to workout in the comfort of your own home and, you’re not afraid to spend a little bit of money in doing so… I think that the Stamina AeroPilates Pro XP 557 Reformer is perfect!
All in all, it’s a beautiful looking Reformer, the quality is second to none, it holds up to 300 pounds in weight so you don’t have to worry about it not being sturdy, it comes with excellent inclusions, a 3-year warranty and, above all else it’s a super comfy machine to use.
Thank-you so much for taking the time to read through this review and if you have any feedback or questions, please feel free to put them in a comment below. I will endeavour to respond to you as soon as possible 🙂
